The Circle of Women strives to realize social justice for women by supporting self-reliance, raising consciousness of individual talents and skills and enhancing cross-cultural relationships.
Goals:
- To develop markets for the weavings that make connections between
weavers and wearers of the rebozo/shawls
- To help women reclaim the old patterns of their culture (weaving)
- To learn from one another, to share our bounty, our pain, our
insight and our affection so we grow together as women
- To develop leadership within the women's groups so they are
eventually able to assume the work as their own
- To provide literacy and language training to older adult women
- To network the artisans of the Mixteca region with workshops
to help them hone thier weaving skills
- To help in the development of a museum using oral histories and photographs
- To develop a library for the village of Miramar
