Please join us for a Spirit-Filled celebration of Halloween and the Day of the Dead on
For The Circle of Women's cross-cultural celebration of Halloween and the Day of the Dead, we will combine these two visions of belief. We will have an altar filled with mementos and food and drink from Oaxaca and Miramar. Please bring a memento of someone you have lost to help in the celebration. Come enjoy Mexican food and beverages and a live and silent auction. There will also be pumpkins, costumes and masks, and you are invited to come dressed for the occasion, although costumes are not required!

Halloween or All Hallow's Eve is a time for laughing at the scariness of death by dressing in costumes to frighten away the dead. This is quite different from the Day of the Dead or El Día de los Muertos, when the people of Mexico believe that the spirits of those who have died return to be with them. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember loved ones who have died. It is a happy time during which people build altars to honor the deceased, filling them with the dead person's favorite food and drinks, photos and memorabilia in order to encourage their visits.
